Pender Farmer’s Market very successful this season

Pender Farmer’s Market draws crowds, vendors



Customers wander beneath the canopy of the huge old live oaks on the grounds of the historic Poplar Grove Plantation just outside Hampstead. The fresh fragrance of flowers mingles with the smell of something tasty cooking. Fresh fruits and vegetables abound. It’s another Wednesday morning at the Pender County Farmer’s Market. Pender has new
county manager

The Pender County Board of Commissioners filled the vacancy in the county manager’s office Monday night. A unanimous vote named Rick Benton to the position of county manager. Benton is currently the business and economic manager for the city of Roanoke Rapids. He was the former manager of the city before transferring to his current position in 2006. Benton brings 25 years of local government experience to the Pender County manager’s office.  more...

County officials are negoiating a deal for additional office space to expand county services for Hampstead area residents. Officials are looking at the Medical Mall of Hampstead at the entrance to Belvedere Plantation off U.S. 17. Commissioners approve
water bond for District 5


Pender County Commissioners gave a nod to a $50 million bond referendum for the Columbia-Union Water and Sewer District. The bond initiative will be on the November ballot for residents in the water district. “This will only be in the Columbia-Union District. It won’t be county wide,” said interim county manager Paul Parker. “We will start advertising so that the people in this district will know there will be something extra on their ballot.”  more..
